So I've got my shingle out and business cards circulating.

I've done about a dozen jobs now, but all have been cash and no paper work necessary. Which I like.

I'm starting to get more calls and more business. a good thing

I was curious what might be a good format for billing my customers.
What type of paper work, or computer program.
Something I could input labor rates/hrs, material cost, consumable cost.......

I'm not real high speed, and would like something similar to what a waitress passes out, but more so. Making any sense?


Any thoughts would be great.

I would set-up an excel spread sheet if it were me.

I would get a program lik Quick Books and use the invoicing routine in it. If this is really a business, tehn you will need to keep books so when the IRS comes around you can document what you earned or didn't earn.

If you don't want to go the computer route, stationary stores frequently carry forms that will do what you want to do. They can be as basic and as simple as you want. Do a Google search to find a form similar to what you are looking for, print it out and take it with you to the store or maybe even buy it on line.
Microsoft Word has some forms included with it if you use the software.
A lot of my friends do use Quick Books. There is a small learning curve but once you get the hang of it, it is great. If you go that route make sure you back up your work or print copies of your transactions.
