I will be in Philadelphia and its environs in a few weeks and would like to drop in on any good woodworking tool shops while I'm there--particularly hand tools.

Any suggestions?

You mean woodworking shops, right? not retail shops?
For retail there is an MLCS store near Meadowbrook, PA.

Danny, try to visit the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop in the Germantown area. It's run by 'Creeker Alan Turner and craftsman/author Mario Rodriguez.

Not hand tools -- but the mother ship of the AAW is The Wood Turning Center in Old City Philadelphia.

And the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop is great -- you can go online and see if any classes fit into your schedule. I wanted to take the two day "plane making" last weekend but I was not able because of a prior commitment :(
