is it possible to use a wipe on poly after sanding with a stearate coated disc? thanks!!!

I don't know why it wouldn't be possible. I don't use poly, but rather varnish. I use stearated al/ox up to 600, then some 3M synthetics, blowing with an air gun in between grits and at the end. The air really helps, as the white color of the abrasive/coating may show up in darker woods with open grain.

Hi Paul,

Sure it is possible! Stearate coating prevents clotting within the abrasive grain on the disc more than anything. Stearate coating has nothing to do really with the finish one is able to apply after sanding.

Stearates can cause fisheye finish defects with waterbase finishes (e.g. waterbase lacquer). Solvent based finishes should be OK.
