This is the hollow form I was turning when I experienced the catch I had posted about in this thread: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=113309

Lots of curl, some bark inclusions and a few cracks help add a little life to this hollow form. The cracks were filled using CA and some bronze powder (circa 1923) I had inherited from my grandfather. The form is 7 ½” in diameter x 4” high, sanded to 320 and has several coats of Minwax Gloss Wipe-On Poly. The top of this is 1/16" thick, the corner is close to 3/8" and the sides and bottom are 1/4" - so it is not as thin as I would like. Afraid I got a little gun-shy after the catch I had and did not wish to blow the piece up!

As always, comments, opinions and critiques are welcome!

Thanks for looking!

Steve, I noticed that the other day when you posted the "Catch" and saw the very distinct color change in the HF. It almost looks like it is wet where it is darker! Cool piece of wood, and I always love the bark, cracks and stuff, some of my favorite things to leave in!

Thanks for sharing!

Jeff

Steve you keep cranking out these awesome HF's like this and its going to inspire me to make another purchase for a hollowing system!!
I guess I better get my speech figured out for the wife, took me a couple days to get her to understand why I needed a coring system!!

Awesome Steve, As always!! 1923 Bronze? I hope you add that info to the bottom of the piece. It'll be nice info handed down to whoever ends up with the piece.

Steve, - That's an excellent piece you saved and just a joke don't you ever get total failure like the rest of us lesser turners.

Looks really nice Steve. Good recovery from the catch.
Did you turn that from green wood and dry it or start with dry wood?

Rob - start with green, rough out to 10% diameter, DNA, dry and then finish turn.

Steve, looks good but did the finish apply evenly all the way around or ?? some spots look lighter than others.

Nicely done Steve. I am glad you were able to save this piece after "The Catch".

Jarrod - it has an even finish. What you see is a natural variation of colors. Looks even better in person!
