Little end grain hollow form. Finial is Blackwood and the stripe is charcoal. Measures 5 x 5 1/2. Buffed sealcoat finish.

That's a really, really, nice looking piece there Mike. The detail on the top just really accents that piece to a different level. Excellent!!

The finial looks a little thick towards the bottom for me, but the overall work is very nice. The charcoal ring accent is a nice touch.

Beautiful wood and workmanship. How did you do the charcoal stripe?

Mike - that sure is some pretty wood! Really like the contrast between the Lignum Vitae and the Blackwood. The charcoal detail line is unexpected and does add a classic line to the piece! Very nice work - as always!

I never thought of using charcoal, and I have a big BBQ smoker sitting within 10' of my lathe. Did you just mix the powdered charcoal in with the epoxy and apply it to the groove you made with the parting tool, or did you sprinkle charcoal over the epoxy-filled groove? I really like the look of your piece...Nice work!

to what has already been said, i would ask how you handled the green greasy stuff? The piece certainly displays your crafsman's touch. :)
