I had a capacitor my 5-year-old Mini Max SW315 table saw fry on me last night. It started the fine sawdust under the saw on fire. I didn’t notice it right away as the smoke was being sucked up the dust collector. Once it caught my nose I was on it & put it out quickly but it still scared the heck out of me.

That would definitely get your blood flowing. Glad you caught it so soon.

Mark,

Fire is one thing that always concerns me, for this very reason. I have 2 fire extinguishers in my shop, one by the door and one close to my finishing area. Obviously you must have planned ahead, and then kept your head.

Glad you caught it when it was still small. Thanks for the reminder to us all to be prepared.

That's wild..

Makes ya want to just change capacitors on a regular basis..

That is a great advertisement for 3 phase power..

THere's a fair chance that your motor isn't fried - just the capacitor. Most TS motors have a thermal overload resistor built into the motor. When it gets too hot, its resistance goes very high and shuts down the motor. When it cools off, it resets.

You might choose to replace the resistor pack and try it again (this time with a fire extinguisher handy!).

This is a single-phase sw315 table saw that we are trying to put the new capacitors in. The old ones were fried beyond recognition. My schematic is for 3 phase. Does any one out there know how to wire the dual capacitors in? What terminals on the 6 terminal block are used? There is a UF 50 and a UF70 capacitors used but we’re not sure what order they are wired. MM techs couldn't supply me with a schematic or an answer.

Thanks Much.

Martin from parts at MM is sending me a schematic, for a single phase 4.8hp motor with 2 capacitors. Hopefully I'll get this worked out yet.

okey dokey I'm making sawdust again. I got a schematic from Martin in parts, & Billy from tech support actually took a machine apart to find out how it was wired, made me a drawing & sent it to me. Once again MM's customer service shines through.

sorry i blew up, guys.

Glad you got things straightened out, Mark!
