These are some pieces that sold a while back. They range in size from 7 in. dia. down to 4 in.

The piece on the left is cherry. The small one in front is olive. The rest are yellow birch. I tried to let the grain tell me where to put the piercing pattern on the birch pieces. The piece on the right has a 5-sided rim.

Comments, good or bad?

Wally,

Those are very nice. I particularly like the spalting in the yellow birch pieces. If you don't mind my asking, where do you get yellow birch in Arizona?

Wow, Wally those are wonderful! Look how the grain goes right into the circle on the cherry piece. These are inspiring. This hobby is just so much fun!

Really nice work!

Wally - as always, your work is very impressive! Love the designs and the subtle details! I see you placed all the piercing within the natural grain patterns. That adds to the way the piercings flow with the wood. Don't know how you come up with the designs but I really like them! I appreciate you sharing your work with all of us!

Wally, You did a great job on that batch of turnings! I have a bunch of spalted yellow birch pieces almost ready to finish turning so I hope they turn out as good as your stuff!

Great job,

Jeff

These are quite impressive! How thick do you make the walls to be able to pierce them???

Thanks Joe...walls must be 1/16th inch for piercing. I use a high speed dental tool. 350,000 RPM
