Just became the proud owner of a shoulder plane, looks like the bedding angle is 15 degrees and the blade primary grind is 25 degrees. Do most folks just put a 5 degree secondary bevel on, giving a cutting angle of 45?
Thanks,
Jake

If you're going to use it mostly for its intended purpose, adjusting shoulders on tenons, you'll be dealing with end grain, so you should keep the angle low.

my guess is that the bedding is at 12 degrees. If the iron has a 25 degree bevel, I'd try to hone it with as minimal a microbevel as you can - 1 or 2 degrees...

Ditto on Ken's reply. I just sharpen mine that way.

Thanks for the responses, I'll give the 1-2 degree microbevel a try.
Ken- FYI, it's the LV version, paperwork calls out a 15 degree bedding angle.
Thanks,
Jake
