What's the best finish for a red mallee HF? Bought two blanks at $75 each and am pleased with the 1st turning and don't want to blow it at this point. I seem to remember someone saying what NOT to use for finish and I've just spent a long time trying to find that post to no avail. Thanks for your help.

The only malee I have finished was a pen with CA. I don't know what finishes to avoid, but if you had a small scrap, you could try some different types, and see what you like, and what you would want to avoid.

On the pieces I have done I used Antique Oil. I have found that since the wood is SO dense that you can not put on 4 or 5 coats unless you want a surface build up.

Sorry I do not have more information.

I have done several malee turnings. Red and brown. I have used lacquer sprayed on them with great success.
