I recently finished a Bradford pear bowl with Danish oil, but I think I used too many coats. The last coat has dried for over a week, and is still a bit tacky in areas (splotchy).

Can I wipe the bowl down with paint thinner, or will I have to sand down the excess?

Rick - I have had the same thing happen a few times and used mineral spirits to lightly wipe everything down.

You might try 0000 steel wool.

Most of the "danish oil" on the market is a mixture of varnish, boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. It should be safe to wipe it with mineral spirits.

I use Watco most of the time, and find that if I put too much on, it takes forever to dry. What I do, (and I think is the recommended way) is to let it sit for an hour or so, then wipe off all the excess with a clean rag. Also, it might continue to weep and need to be wiped down occasionally.

Mineral spirits will do just fine.
