Anyone have any examples of a homemade bench griding jig? I have one of the woodcraft 8" dual-speed varieties. I was going to get the LV grinding jig but there are too many other tools I need right now.

I mostly need an idea for the platform and how to make it adjustable. I figured with some trial and error on scrap wood I could get some wood blocks together as an angle reference.

Also some advice on how to properly dress a new grinding wheel would be helpful - I have a 36-grit diamond one and need to dress 60 and 120 grit wheels.

Thomas, it was either Woodsmith magazine or its companion publication, ShopNotes, that had an excellent plan for a grinder platform a few years back. I don't have access to the information right now, but I can get it by tomorrow. I made one for my Woodcraft slow-speed grinder, and it works very well. It has the adjustability you need, plus sliding platforms and hold-downs. Just the ticket!

I finally remembered to locate that article on the bench grinder platform. It was in the ShopNotes #74 (August 2004), p. 24 and following. The project mounts the grinder on an adjustable platform, complete with sliding tables and hold-downs.
Sorry it took me so long to look it up!

I too would like to make a grinder platform. I downloaded a pdf file of issue 74 of Shopnotes and do not find the grinder platform in it.

It's Issue #76 (July/August 2004).

David Finck has some suggestions and an example in his recently reprinted book on making hand planes.

Is there a website where I can download a .pdf file of Shopnotes Issue #76, or just the grinder system article?

Tom,

Thanks for the link, but I can't get it to work. It takes me to the site, but clicking on issue #76 gets me nothing.

try right mouse click, and then save-as. I would email it to you but it is 25mb, and the PDF is password protected so I can't extract the pages.
