Thanks to everyone that pointed me in the right direction on my tool acquisition journey. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=107250
The Blue Spruce chisels are outstanding and the Rob Cosman book & video were very instructive.
QSWO & popular. It didn’t turn out too bad, I’m happy with the end results. SWMBO is happy and that’s all that really matters! The oak was a lot tougher than my mahogany & popular practice pieces.

All critiques are welcome.

Verry Well Done!! these look realy good! Whene you say practice runs, how long have you been practicing for?
Maybe I shouldn't ask this question... which brand of saw did you use?

David, I used a Lie-Nielsen 15 PPI Dovetail Saw. Getting the hang of the saw was probably the hardest thing for me to learn. Once I figured out how to relax with it, it just clicked in my mind. I’ve been practicing for about 3-4 weeks.

They look excellent Bruce.
Congrads on the first drawer. The next 4 will be a snap.
You got to love the feeling when a joint like that goes together!

They are indeed great! I wish I could do something like that (my projects don't involve joints so I never learned so far).

Is that normal lighting in your workshop? Looks so soothing, arty like. Makes your drawer look like an art piece :)

Wow, I guess you are one of those Natural at things!
Good for you! I don't think my DT ever looked that sharp... Maybe I should consider some courses!!
ho well I keep at it!

Thanks everyone, your encouragement motivates me to get off my butt and finish the rest of the drawers!

Sam, my “art studio” has regular old florescent & incandescent lighting. Take a tour; :D

I just watched the video and I have a question. What tools don't you have? :D That's one nice workshop. If I had a nice shop like that, I'd be inspired to practice on dovetail, too. I'm sure the rest of your drawers will come out very nicely :)

Two words: YOU SUCK!!! In the nicest way possible of course :-)

Superb 'first' attempt man. I would suggest you upgrade to Rob's DT saw but I think you've mastered the one you have. I wouldn't change a thing. Keep the pictures coming. They are very encouraging (no wait depressing).

Bruce,

are you happy with the tools you purchased to cut DTs? Would you do anything differently?

I’m very happy with all of it but I don’t really have anything to compare to. That’s one of the great things about SMC – if you don’t know what you’re getting into just ask!
The only thing I want to add is some high quality bench chisels. The ones I have don’t hold the edge very well.

Thanks Bruce. Once I finish my workbench, learning to cut DTs by hand is my next project. And I would rather buy once and be done with it than compromise and end up buying things twice. Your DTs are superb, and I appreciate you sharing your experience with me.

Jacob, I'm the same way, I'd rather cry only once. I'm at a point in life that I can afford to buy quality stuff, but when I look back at all the tools that I have had to upgrade over the last umteen years, I cry all over again! :(
