Thought I would show these to the Haven. The 26" is from 1917-1942 and the 12" is from 1888-1890 I believe by the medallions. Finally got them sharpened. Please post your pics. I really enjoy bringing these back to life. Have a safe holiday.

The bottom one could be the oldest Disston Saw known to exist.

Here's my 1917? disston backsaw that I recently restored. I filed off the horribly spaced teeth, and filed the new ones at 16 ppi. I had fun building the handle, and would really like to try my hand at making a complete saw from scratch.

Absolutely beautiful work. Do you guys ever worry about restoring too much? Can an antique tool lose some of the value if shined up too much?

I usually do not worry about most of the tools I am keeping for my self. If it is thought that one day it will be sold as a collectable, then I do not do much beyond what is needed for using.

Most of my tools are not really collectables, though there is likely someone collecting them.

I'm with Jim on this one. They are tools, and therefore I use them, not hang them on the wall as decoration. I'm not a collector, just a cheapskate who doesn't like to pay too much for tools, so I refurbish the old ones to work as well as the new high end ones.
