My propane torch goes out if the nozzle goes dips below about 45 degrees relative to the container. There's plenty of gas in the container but this is a real pain.

I burn a lot of my turnings and I can't always get the angles I want because the flippin thing keeps going out. This is the cheapest unit sold by Lowes. Now, I want to use a flame spreader to try out jin-di-sugi.

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Burt

The propane torch is meant to burn gaseous, not liquid propane.

If you want an all position torch head, you'll need one with the flex hose, so that the propane tank can stay vertical........Rod.

P.S.

• Why will my torch not stay lit when tipped upside down?
(http://javascript://)When a non regulated brass torch is tipped upside down, the liquid propane in the torch works its way through the torch and blows out the flame. We recommend a pressure regulated torch, such as the TS3000T (http://bernzomatic.com/PRODUCTS/TORCHES/STANDARDTORCHES/tabid/250/ctl/Detail/mid/1259/xmid/6948/xmfid/3/Default.aspx).

I added the text from the Bernzomatic website, apparently there are regulated torches for all position use, in addition to the one I mentioned.

In the old style propane torches there was a sintered metal filter and an orifice in the line that would prevent the liquid from over powering the burner. When I tilt my torch down, the flame gets larger but does not go out. I can't speak to the newer crop of torches.

similar to this (http://bernzomatic.com/PRODUCTS/TORCHES/PROFESSIONALTORCHES/tabid/230/ctl/Detail/mid/1009/xmid/6942/xmfid/3/Default.aspx) that will burn either propane or MAPP gas. I haven't had a problem with it going out no matter the position. It works great to start natural lump charcoal:).

If you do a lot of burning I'd check with your local welding supply house and see about something like a Turbo Torch, runs off of acetylene and has usually about a 4-6 foot hose.
There is no oxygen tank needed with these.

You can get acetylene tanks that aren't a whole lot bigger than the propane cylinders your probably using and bigger if ya want.
