I did a wood trade a while ago... I finally got my end taken care of, so today I unwrapped the pieces I was sent ...
I lost the paperwork, so I don't know what kind of wood it is, but I turned this from what I got.
10 1/2 inches in diameter by 3 1/2 inches high
Mineral Oil sanded to 400 and Microcrystaline wax finish.
A NICE piece of wood!

WOW, you need to find out the wood because this is a great piece. I'm glad you kept it thick to. Great job.

Amazing wood and a beautiful bowl. I really like the simple form.

I must agree, the simple form gives way to the awesome grain and look of the burl.

Thank You Everyone!
I'm going to see Angelo this weekend, perhaps he'll remember the name and tell me...
I'll post it then.

Could that be Amboyna burl?

Hey Georege, with the eyes and flames the way they are, I wanna say that is Black Ash, maybe? Either way, it is a beautiful peice. Nice Job!!!!!

As I was turning, I was trying to figure out why I knew the smell - kind of grassy/earthy - and now that it has been asked, my nose DOES kind of remember Ash.

George, No matter the wood type it is wonderful! It does have the look of black ash burl though. The simple tried and true shape is a perfect medium for the burl! Thanks for sharing it with us.

I was thinking black ash burl as well. The simplicity of the bowl lets the wood shine and the thickness gives it some depth and substance. Very nice!
