I finished this ambrosia maple bowl Mon. night. This is the first ambrosia maple that I have turned. I like it. I bought the blank from Steve Wall Lumber back in December and rough turned the bowl then. It is 3-1/8" X 10-3/4" finished with mineral oil and bees wax.

Nice bowl! That's an interesting piece of ambrosia. Most that I have worked with has greenish streaking more than the brown you have.

I get ALOT of ambrosia blanks as well as some other lumber from wall lumber. He even had some bubinga blanks the other day.

Thanks for the comments. I really enjoy learning to turn bowls with your help. I like the ambrosia maple wood and plan on getting some more.

So i take it you did mail order, if that is the case i would strongly recommend you take the drive sometime to wall's yourself, he doesn't always have his current stock on the site, i.e. he had some 12/4 bubinga blanks last week when i was in there.

Tony, I had a crew working on a job in Matinsville Va. I had seen the Wall Lumber site on the internet so I stopped by on the way home one day. It is worth the drive to buy bowl blanks from Wall Lumber. They have a good selection and the people are great. I feel the vortex pulling me in deeper. There may be a bigger lathe in my future.(soon) That would require some larger bowl blanks. God this is addictive.

You have NOOOO idea, just wait till you start hollowing. I am lucky in the fact that i live about 45 minutes from wall, and it is only about 5 minutes from my brothers place. safe to say wall gets alot of my business. He even knows me by name, not sure that is a good thing, and knows to give me a call when he is going to be cutting any ambrosia to see if i want any thing special.
