found a semi local tree remover and paid him a visit. now i have a ton of norfold island pine. best part was he already had it cut just as you see it. had the truck loaded in 10 minutes.

Chris - congrats on your wood score! I have seen some amazing stuff turned out of that! Looking forward to seeing what you turn out of it!

Ya got the haul all sealed up yet?

Thats the way to get free wood, I see so much nice wood go to waste from urban forests... its a shame.

Congrats on the wood haul. That will be some nice turning wood especially if you can get the eyes where the branches come out right.

I hope it compares with the Norfolk Island Pine in Hawaii. The turned items there are incredible when you turn thin for translucent. How do you plan to finish? I was told to use a mixture of 1 part polyurethane (Defthane) to 4 parts of Deft danish oil applied after buffing with Tripoli, and keep building up about 5 coats or until it looked good and then do one more coat and buff with Tripoli, white diamond, and then use Renasiance wax. That finish is great and really give a luster and feel.
