I went to Lowe's today to get a planer as I have one of the orriginal models that still works good but does have snipe which I have learned to live with. All the planers are gone and sales person does not know if they are going to get any more.http://www.sawmillcreek.org/images/icons/icon9.gif
Must be more woodworkers here that read the Creek:o

I found one shaper/planer for $129.00, Is this machine worth the money or is it just a toy that I do not need? http://www.sawmillcreek.org/images/icons/icon12.gif

Don,

I checked Lowes.com and the following stores in the Phoenix area show the planer as in stock. You can buy it online and go pick it up at the store - though I would call the store to have them pull it off the floor. :D To buy it online, put the zip code in for the store.

13363 W. GRAND AVENUE
SURPRISE, AZ 85374

16285 NORTH SCOTTSDALE ROAD
SCOTTSDALE, AZ 85260

I did the same thing for my area to find which store had what - one still has a jointer - gee, I wonder . . . .

On the shaper - I looked at Amazon for some reviews - not too good, so even though it's cheap, I passed.

Good luck, Wes

When I was at Lowes this week they told me that some of this stuff was on order and would be in this week. Doesn't sound like clearance to me but whatever. I wonder about that "shaper" myself. It sure is tempting. Does anyone have experience with it out there?

The shaper with the ribbed aluminum top has received bad reviews on the web. The ribbed top scrapes and discolors certain woods and the fence is finickey to align properly. Its a fairly low speed motor for router bits and isn't powerful enough for shaper bits.
