Well I finally have a wood gloat. Coming home from work this evening a gentleman I knew was trimming his maple tree. He called it a silver maple. Anyway got 3 logs and a smaller one which yeilded 13 bowl blanks. Two will be crotch pieces. Can't wait to tear into these.

Great haul Bernie! I would be willing to bet that you will find some nice curl in a few of those.I turned a bunch of it 2 years ago and always found a bit of curl someplace on each piece...Bill...

Way to go Bernie, it didn't take you long to get them cut up and sealed. They should spalt pretty easily if that is your wish, but it has been my experience that the "shelf life" of maple is less than most other woods so if you let them spalt get them roughed out soon after.

Thanks again. I have had some spalted maple and wasn't real pleased with the wood as it had started to get soft on me. Maybe was doing something wrong. I don't think these will have time to spalt. I get the gouges sharp. I will be ready to rock and roll tomorrow.

Awesome Bernie. I love free wood. I worry less, experiment more and just plain have more fun! Can't wait for the pics of what you turn them into!
