wood cut

I was able to get a piece 1x6 Purpleheart plank. Is I look at the end grain I see the grain runs in a semi-circle from one side of the plank to the other side. Its been in the shop for a considerable time so its dry and not warped.
I was thinking of cutting it down for penblanks and was wondering how i should cut it with the grain as described. Any suggestions?

Can you post a pic of what the grain is doing? purple is great for pens, btw.
