A friend gave me some hardwood scraps left over from some of his woodworking projects.
I glued them up in a random order and put a red vulcanized fiber spacer between the pieces of wood.
This is one lidded box I made. It stands 3 1/4" tall.

I don't know what vulcanized fiber is but it definitely was a nice addition, very cool. My favorite is the one on the left.

It's actually the same box, just different sides. Vulcanized fibre is used by knifemakers to give some color to knife handles. Knife supply companies carry it in red, blue, black and white. It probably has some use in industry I am not aware of.

Guess I would call that laminated rather than segmented. But by whatever name a very nice box. Excellent, almost invisible lid to box joint.

Great looking box, Tom! I wish I could get my lids to fit like that.

Tom - very colorful little box! Cool idea of using the vulcanized fiber! As already mentioned - excellent work on the lid to body fit!

Thanks for the comments. I agree, it is a layered box not a segmented box.
I had been making large bowls and decided I needed a change. I had bought some Ray Key videos when Craft Supplies had them on sale. The Ray Key videos are excellent. Ray key does a great job explaining how to make the boxes. I give him the credit for any success I am having with the boxes.
The large bowl is Ash and is 20" in diameter, the small cedar box is 3" tall.

Lidded box looks great as does the others. Ash bowl looks really nice. Well done.
