Either is acceptable. Usually Grey is used more frequently in the UK, Gray in the US. If you consider Pantone to be the authority on color, my book says gray.

Mirriam-Webster (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gray[1]) says "Gray" is primary and "Grey" is a variant.

Bottom line: Either is acceptable, so use whichever one suits your fancy at the time.

Considering that you're asking and reading on a computer, I thought it appropriate/entertaining to mention that the official W3C HTLM color names for #808080 is Gray, #A9A9A9 is DarkGray, but #E0FFFF is LightGrey.

Correct. Also, Grey is ignored in CSS. "Gray" is used as in:

#crosssells table { width: 125px; border:solid 1px gray;}

...makes a 1 pixel border in gray (#808080) around the crosssells table.

I tend to use "distinguished".....................Oh, you didn't mean hair colour?

Being Canadian I use grey............Rod................Of course I also spell colour with a u.
