Carbon Fiber Pen

A customer came to me and was looking for a new pen. He chose a Jr. Retro kit and a carbon fiber blank. I did not cast this blank but hope to be able to in the future. This blank spun easily and polished like glass. This material is used in high heat areas and usually to protect wires in engines. Here is what he gets. Thanks for lokking. Sorry about the quality of photos. I had to get this pen out quickly and just took these on the back porch this morning.

Very nice pens John. When you cast your own, would you wrap the carbon fiber around the tubes and then cast in clear acrylic resin?

Yes that is how it is done. Not really much of a secret. I have a pressure pot so this will help keep the bubbles out of the resin when it drys.

Are you wrapping the carbon fiber, or using braided sleeves like these? (Braided Biaxial Sleeves)

I did not cast the blank as I mentioned and even gave the link to the person who did. I do know though that person uses the sleeves and this way it does not show the seam. They are very well done.
