This is a Perfect Fit Ball Point Pen turned from a Curly Black Ash Burl. It has been dyed Peacock Blue with a water soluble aniline dye from LV, and set off with Gold Titanium plating for a royal look!

Nice job Mack - really nice pen. At what point did you dye the wood? Did you "rough" turn it first? Thanks for sharing.

Nice job Mack - really nice pen. [quote]At what point did you dye the wood? Did you "rough" turn it first? Hi Greg; Sorry for being so long in answering your question. I don't recall seeing it before today.

I turn the pen to size and dye it then. The water soluble aniline dye from LV that I use, seems to penetrate the wood with no real problem. It raises the grain a little, so I knock that back the next day with 600 grit paper with little loss of the dye. Then I decide whether I want to dye it again or leave it. Most of the times I leave it, since it allows the grain to show through.
