What songs are linked to movies in your mind? For example, when you hear Old Time Rock and Roll does the scene from Risky Business pop into your head? Or when you hear Live and Let Die do you see James Bond? Songs written specifically for the soundtrack of the movie don't count.

Ignore my stupidity on the Live and Let Die -James Bond thing. Eric corrected me on that below. I completely forgot the song was written for the movie.

Easy Rider -
Steppenwolf "Born to be Wild"
"Get your motor running,
Get out on the highway,
Looking for adventure,
And whatever comes our way."

The Band "The Weight"
"I pulled into Nazareth, I was feelin' about half past dead;
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said."

"Take a load off Fanny,
Take a load for free,
Take a load off Fanny,
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me."

Whenever I hear either of those, I see Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda on those choppers riding across the desert.

Apocalypse Now
Richard Wagner "Ride of the Valkyries"
I can see those helicopters going in to attack the village, with "Ride of the Valkyries" playing on the loudspeakers.
And later, Robert Duvall saying, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like...... victory."
My other favorite quote from that movie is another Robert Duvall, "Charlie don't surf."

Miller's Crossing
"Danny Boy"
Night scene in a residential neighborhood, 1920's. Leo (Albert Finney) is walking down the middle of the street with a Thompson with a smoking barrel, shooting it out the the killers who tried to assassinate him.
Miller's Crossing is an overlooked gem of a movie. Great cast, outstanding acting, complex plot. One of the Coen brothers movies (along with Fargo, No Country for Old Men, Raising Arizona, and many others). Rent it - I highly recommended it.

War, Low Rider--Dazed and Confused
Peter Gabriel, In Your Eyes--Say Anything

This one is such a strong connection, I can't hear this and think of anything *but* 2001.
"Also sprach Zarathustra", Richard Strauss composer: "2001: A Space Odyssey"
Try it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLuW-GBaJ8k

"Aquarela do Brasil" by Ary Barroso: "Brazil"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0liP9Ghe6Y

"Minstrel Boy", though the slow version from the movie is more evocative than the usual recordings: "Black Hawk Down"

And just to show my age:
"I'll Melt with You" by Modern English: "Valley Girl"

In case anyone's interested, I found the opening of "Easy Rider" on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMbATaj7Il8)with "Born to be Wild" playing. If you're old enough to remember "Easy Rider" it's fun to look at.

And here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uygNtTB2Urc) "The Weight" (about 2 minutes into the video)

"Danny Boy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtBNO80lEVI)" from "Millers Crossing"

And finally, Apocalypse Now (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHjWDCX1Bdw)

Thanks Terry. I've really enjoyed reading all the responses. Many of the song/movies mentioned are linked for me as well. Who (of a certain generation) doesn't think of Easy Rider when they hear "Born to be Wild"? "Paint it Black" from Tour of Duty is another one of mine (even though TOD was a T.V. series.

Funny mental link my father's entire family shares. I was a huge M*A*S*H fan. The year I was 13 I spent a couple of weeks out of the summer at my paternal grandparents' house, as I did every year. That patricular year, though, my grandmother's neighbor's grandson was staying with her at the same time. He found out I loved the movie and T.V. show and "serenaded" me every night for two weeks with the theme from M*A*S*H - on his trumpet. It was very sweet, but my family laughs about it to this day, and to this day when I hear that song I see his face.
