Katie Dovetail Jig

Purchased the Katie dovetail jig a couple of months ago from Sommerfeld Tools. I just attempted to cut through dovetails in 1/2 inch Baltic Birch plywood. I am using 1/4 plywood as a backer board in front and behind the drawer parts. I am getting very bad blowout. In fact, a couple of times the whole pin blew out. Suggestions please..

I would try solid wood on each side...and make sure router is full speed and go really slow with sharp bit......hope it helps
