In the US, who do you recommend as a source for kiln dried bowl blanks?
Thanks

I'm curious. Why do you want kiln dried bowl blanks? If you hit the right yard, you could get 4-6" boards of quality lumber which would amount to the same thing. But, oh, the expense!

David, you're not apt to find kiln dried bowl blanks. Wood that's over 3 inches thick has to spend too much time in a kiln to dry. However, I suggest that you try a large lumber yard for the thickest kiln dried planks that they have. They'll usually cut enough off for a few bowls. You might even get lucky and find some with some nice figure in it. I sometimes buy 12/4 (3 in. thick) kiln dried planks to make bowl blanks for my turning classes.

I would guess another question to ask you is what size are you looking for. I am too cheap to buy bowl blanks when there are so many trees available just for the taking. You can turn thick and return later, or turn thin and let them warp. Big thick pieces of wood just don't dry all the way through, at least not without cracking.
