I need help here. My birthday is coming up and wifey wants to get me something. I'm thinking Router table. Does anybody have opinions or experiences that can help? I probably don't want to build one I'm so hard pressed for time these days. I'd love your input. I also might think about an inexpensive shaper like Grizzly or something similar. Thanks.

Several years ago I purchased a router table from WOODHAVEN. Have been happy with it.

Here's an opinion of what NOT to get. We have a Craftsman router table at work and it keeps tipping over. there are no brackets to bolt it to the floor but we're going to have our welder fix us up with something.

Go for a large top with ajustable fence and miter gauge slots. I've watched the Router show on PBSyou and they don't use any fence or miter gauges. they seem to spend a lot of time setting up etc.

I am thinking about this one once I get my basement finished. I have read that people are very happy with the quality.

Dunno if it'd be in the price range or not, but you might look at the one from Veritas/Lee Valley. All metal top, metal fence, and available w/ a kit for making a bench top version.

Hi John

Take a look at the last 2 tables on this page... http://www.wilkemach.com/OnlineCatalogSearchResults.tpl?SearchCategory=Shap ers

I've played with them the last couple times i was in the showroom at Wilke and they're high quality stuff. I like cast iron toys and these 2 have it at 150 lbs and 130 lbs...

I have the bench dog router table, its good-nice fence. If I had to do it all over again I would go with the CMT router table.
