I finally got the white base coat on the frame. I had one heck of a time with the viscosity and the HVLP conversion gun. I finally got it. Tomorrow I will put on the gold top coat. All paint is acrylic water based paint by Behr. The gold sample shown is brushed on. The sample represents two coats. I think I am going with the gun. ;) The picture doesn't do just to the intensity of the gold. There is lots of metalic in it.

It's looking great Byron. Are you going to do a brown glaze over the gold to give it some age? That would look nice.

Along the same lines as Todd's comments, you could also do some "almost dry brush" techniques with Golden acrylics to highlight the molging features.

Jim and Todd,
She applied some burnt umber and then burnt sienna. The look is great. She thanks you for the gold highlights - dry brushed suggestion. :D She's off to HER shop trying this out!

Using the gun with this stuff is ok. I'm using a #4 tip/needle, jacked up the pressure at the gun to about 30 psi and opened the fluid knob from 1 1/2 to a full 2 turns. The stuff is thick and the thinning suggestion was 1 oz for 1 pint. I elected not to thin. :o

Byron, next time, consider using something like Fuhr 9100 acrylic or Target Coatings USL....both can be tinted to the color of your choice and are specifically designed to be sprayed. Home center paint isn't always the best idea for that!
