Good Monday to you all,

Had a question from a newbie and since I do not do my own lumber prep, thought I'd ask the collected wisdom and experience of trusted friends.

Generally speaking, which tree species have large pith areas and which have smaller pith areas that need to be cut out when preparing blanks from logs.

Hoping for some good concise answers.

I'd say cut the pith out where ever you can find it. I never had a problem with piths from willow or cottonwood. In my experience, the worst is apple followed by ash but I'm sure. This is one of those YMMV answers.

you can leave the pith in mesquite if you must, it will be noticeable but will not spoil the turning, it moves very little
