MAking the kick panel for my wifes desk.

Using 1/4 oak ply and oak 1x4 as a frame.

I'm thinking of sawing a groove into the edge of the 1x4s to hold the ply.

I can buy a cheap router at Lowes. Skil, with 2 bases for $99.

Should I stick with the Table saw for the grooves or buy the router?

I think I would use the table saw rather than a hand held router. I use my table mounted router for grooves. But would hesitate using the hand held.

I concur with not cutting grooves in the edge of a board with a router. It can be done, but a hand held router on the edge of a single board won't be very stable. The TS is a better way to go. If you cut blind grooves, just be sure to raise the blade into the stock, do not attempt to lower the stock onto the moving blade.

I couple months back i built a head board that needs slots cut to let in the beadboard field. I used my table saw and made a few passes...worked great. Don't buy a cheap tool to do the job of a tool you already own. Now maybe if you said you were going to buy a 3HP plunge and a router table

So with a table it'd be OK?

Seriously, thanks guys.

I'll be making sawdust tonight and tomorrow, especially since I spun the hub in my prop....
