i need help ASAP:can you cut//engrave painted wood?

i am trying to cut and engrave a wood piece and it is painted in black acrylic craft paint....it has flames when it is engraving. is this okay?? is it safe to engrave stuff that is painted?? i need to know asap as i am doing it now and need to know if i can continue.

Yeah I cut through acrylic paint all the time. Sometimes it effects your engraving quality, if its been slopped on unevenly. Otherwise, I don't see any problem. Use air assist if its flaming up.

Yes, use air assist if you have it, but also apply transfer tape then mist with water and engrave, you will get a cleaner job.
