Anyone use a food dehydrator for drying fruit, etc?

Are there particular features I should look for? I've looked a little and some of the marketing propaganda says things like "dries fruit in xxx hours". Thing I don't seem to find readily available is if they turn off automatically or not.

Thanks for any input

Yes, I've been using a dehydrator for years. Started out with one of the cheap round ones. It wasn't worth the low price I paid. :( Gave it away.

After borrowing an old model Excalibur from a neighbor, I wound up buying one. Mine is the 3926T http://www.excaliburdehydrator.com/Dehydrators-37-cat.htm

Out of the many things I like about it, here's 3.
Temperature control, timer, and size of SQUARE trays that don't have to be stacked.

I've used mine for everything from drying peppers to making homemade yogurt.

Even if you decide not to buy an Excalibur, do check out their web site for lots of info on dehydrating.

Disclaimer: I'm just a satisified customer.

Hope this helps.

Like Lee, I use the Excalibur mainly for beef jerky. I have had mine for over 15 years and it work great.
