I just bought a piece of property with the perfect size building for my shop and a new three car garage already on it. It has a house but it is a modular, and my wife says no, it has to go if I want her to move out of this house I built for her. Can't say as I blame her and doing what I do it would be hard for me to live in a modular myself. So..........

We have been looking for an old schoolhouse for years, but they are always in bad shape, or wrong locations, etc. I was looking at an old school yesterday and it is about the same width as the Modular, 24', but not quite as long, so then it hit me. I can build a new old school to fit on the existing basement! Duh.

So if any of you are schoolhouse afficinados, or know where I can find more information on the Standard Schools, know of any books, web sites or generally anything that will make me better informed, by all means pipe up, would love to hear from you. Interior pictures would be nice as well, as I want it to look the part of a converted schoolhouse on the inside as well.

The basement is 56' long, so I am going to have to work in a porch on one end to hide that as that would throw off the proportions, width to length that I have observed. I am stumped on that as of yet.

Thanks Gentlemen

Greetings from NC!
Larry,
We have several one room schoolhouses here in central NC. One that I personally visited is the Bostick Schoolhouse. Here's a link - http://www.rchs-nc.net/bostick.htm. A quick Google search yielded a treasure trove of information across the US and Canada, with many listings in Michigan. Here's that link - http://www2.johnstown.k12.oh.us/cornell/index.html.

Good Luck in your quest!

Respectfully,
