My very talented friend, John Taliaferro, thinks size matters. Our local turning club, Woodturners of Southwest Missouri, has a monthly project contest. The following photos show John's entries for the honey dipper and goblet projects. The honey dipper is oak and the goblet is hackberry. To top it all off, he turned them on a lathe he built himself.

John recently acquired an Oliver lathe of 1960's vintage that makes my Robust American Beauty look like a mini-lathe. No large tree will be safe when he gets Oliver operational. It's so big he has to build a new wing on his shop just to get it under roof.

Impressive! First you have to have the imagination, then the lathe, then a source of wood to fit the dream! Pretty cool work!

Looks as if John is not a stranger to huge turnings. I think that is the biggest NE bowl I have ever seen! Should hold a years worth of production of M&M's...Bill..
