Sounds like a good deal. I think the 2hp jets normally go for around 2200$. Lot's of people swear by the jet. 5 year warranty. It has been tested and proven.

I've got the 1642 1.5Hp version and think it's a great machine. If I had more power to my shop I would have gone with the 2 Hp version.

I am surprised more people have not responded to your your question. There are a lot of people here with the Jet 1642. I have the 2 HP version and really like it. If you can live with the 16" swing, I don't think you are going to find anything any better in that class for the money it costs.

At that price point, that is the lathe to buy.

Joseph - had thunderstorms last night - so the computer was unplugged. I have the same lathe as you are considering and find - really - it does everything. There have been a few times when I wish it had a bigger swing - especially when roughing out chainsawed blanks - but for the most part I have been extremely happy with the lathe.

$1950 for a new lathe is a great price. I bought mine in November 2006 and believe the price was $1850 - plus an additional $155 shipping.

Looking forward to seeing photos of which ever lathe you decide on!
