Hi all -

FWW had plans for the Thomas Jefferson portable writing box a while back.

I've "googled" writing box, writing slope and a number of related terms, but I can't really find anything of note.

I'd rather study a few existing photos and combine different details - does anybody know of good places to find nice examples and/or plans?

Thank you.
Howard

Perhaps the Smithsonian has something or your local library...

Howard,

Within the last 2 weeks, I read that article. The author has plans that you can buy through his website. I bought the plans, which look very thorough. Here's the link:

Good luck.

Interesting timing, I talked to my SIL last night and she commisioned me to make her a seal holder for her wax seals she puts on her letters. It seems that the old way of sealing letters is coming back into vogue. She did mention that the US postal service is not thrilled with these letters because they do not process through their mail sorting machines very well. But oh well, it could be considered an art form, and I kind of like the idea of this classy way of coresspondance.

This is a site in England that has a lot of writing boxes from early history. This may give you some inspiration. Antique Writing boxes and Lap desks © 1999-2003 Antigone Clarke and Joseph O'Kelly (http://www.hygra.com/writing.html)

do a good job of documenting this photo when I captured it on the web but I'm almost certain that this is a photo of the original Jefferson laptop ...

Perhaps this will help .. don[t have any other info on the piece.
