I posted a short tutorial on how to turn an offset wooden mallet here (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=110501) (in the Neander forum). This may be simple and well known to people who turn a lot, but I thought I'd post the link in case some are interested.

I like it. Not only was the tutorial well done, but the tool is interesting. A double whammy!

Interesting. Good tutorial.

I guess I will show my ignorance, and ask what you use this type of mallet for?

Probably the most common use would be hitting a mortise chisel when making a mortise by hand. But it could be used anywhere you need to encourage something (like aligning a couple of boards) and want to use a soft face mallet.

Great tutorial Mike. Based on that lesson you'd have the job for sure if I was doing the hiring. I hope they know what a class act and skilled craftsman they have an opportunity to emply. Lucky students that get you for an instructor!
