Bill - great form on this one! Beautiful wood! Personally, I am not to sure about the mineral oil as a finish as it never really dries. If you are concerned about a finish adding a yellow tint to the wood, have you tired a water based poly? It will raise the grain a little (meaning more sanding) but dries clear.

I have just completed some bowls of what I believe is the same wood. I call it Red Gum but I think is the same wood. Thanks for the tip on the mineral oil. I will try it on the next one.

Steve, I have used the water base poly and it is a good product. Just a fine sand after the first coat and you can apply as much as you like without having to worry about the grain again. I have used the mineral oil off and on for a few years. After sitting a few days the 3 wheel buff over the top of the mineral oil on this makes it feel like you are holding a bar of Ivory soap. Thats as close as I can come to a description of the "feel" of the piece...Bill..

That's a beauty. Like the form too. Several of the new Lacquers should maintain the color and keep it from yellowing.
