I resawed some Red Oak this morning and it had a lot of stress in it. Since I am new to resawing large widths of wood I want to know if I have done the right thing. When I had resawn 2 3/4 inch boards out of some 8/4 oak the last piece curled quite a bit. So I stickered all the wood and figured it was best to let it sit for a day before planing it down to finished size (1/2). Is this right or should I go ahead and take it down to 1/2 inch now?
Thanks for the help

Sticker it and let it sit for as long as possible (2 weeks would be great). You want the moisture content to equalize before you complete the milling process.
I had this happen with some bookmatched birdseye maple panels. The boards sprung apart when I resawed them. I should have given them more time to acclimate to my shop… I was able to let them sit for a few weeks and they turned out okay.
