My wife would like a wooden lamp post. We looked at some from Walpole Woodworkers & they were $800-$900. They don't look too difficult to make (for a lot less than that)
Two questions:
-does anyone know where I could get plans for one?
-any thoughts on using AZEK boards to build one? (I like the idea of no paint & no rot)
Thanks
Dennis

If the AZEK is basically plastic/milk-jug lumber, I've had good success using it around my pool. I think I used Trex...got it form the borg. It glued up just fine with poly glue (I only used poly glue due to immersion in water) and has held up well for a number of years now.

David Marks made a bent-form lamination light post from koa. It was pretty slick. Check his site for it at diynetworks.com (Woodworks). It was, of course, an interior light.

I like AZEk myself. I have built several boat consoles from it. It seems to hold up fine and it's easy to work with. I also liked the no paint,no rot aspect. I would think you could come up with something pretty nice with it. Properly built it is fairly strong too.

Build the lamp post like a mail box post. Use whatever size stock for the size post you want. I used poplar with a good coat of primer and then latex.

What did you do to prevent decay? Around here Poplar would be crumbling in a few years.
