Hello Everyone,

Looks like I have the honor of posting the first pictures from Bill Grumbine's "5 Barn's BBQ". I really wish I took more. But I was having such a great time, I forgot! And what a turn out we had! I think that over 100 people showed up this time.

Watching the Woodmizer work was such a blast! I wish I could have hung out more and seen it really put through it's paces. I am still amazed at how little sawdust is produced by all that cutting.

I spent about 50 minutes at Bill's Polewood Lathe demoing for Steven Atonucci how to turn a sphere in 5 minutes. As you can guess, it took me longer than what I had stated to turn a sphere. You try and start from scratch without any of the jigs made beforehand and you see how long it takes you! (So there!) :>)

It was great seeing all my friends again. Plus it was a real pleasant surprise seeing some old friends from Badger Pond; John Renzetti, Lee Scheirer, Moses Yoder, Dave Anderson, and Rod Peterson.

Rather than butcher the names (cause I realize I'm just about the worst person when it comes to remembering names), I'm going to let you all chime in and tell me who's name I missed in the photos! And yes, I already that the big guy with the maroon shirt and green hat is Bill Grumbine!

Here is a shot of all of us standing around the woodmizer. I see Bart Goldberg, Steve Antonucci, Al Kaposius (sp), Ted Owens, Bill Grumbine, and Ron from Drums PA (in the background). Help me out with the rest, will ya?

Here is a shot of Dan Donaldson and Mike Rubes. Can't quite make out who they're speaking with.

Here's Dave Anderson speaking with William Duffy (I believe).

If you can't tell by the photos, we all had a fantastic time. Like all things good, it was over way too soon. Thanks again to Bill for hosting this event.

Very nice, Dominic...I didn't get over to the band mill (but have experienced that first hand in the past) but could tell it was a really big hit! It was nice seeing your more recent turnings and tools up-close-and-personal, too. Pictures are great, but holding them in your hands is the best!

BTW, there are some additional photos in a thread started by Bill Grumbine in the OT forum yesterday.

You missed the fun Dom, Bill hauled a large walnut tree butt out of his wood stash that was as wide as the mizer could cut, somewhere near 36" across after they squared it up. Bill slabbed it for bowl turning and cut about four slices 5" thick then cut the center into 4 X 4's

It was great time, Those that didn't come missed a good event. WHere else can you go and get a free meal, free beeswax samples and lots of free advice from friendly folks.

I think you ball actually took a tad over 7 minutes to complete wonce you had the jigs made. I notice it didn't get left behind after the demo either.

Thanks for the cherry. I guess I better make some boxes soon.

I'm already looking forward to next year.

Lee,
It sure was great seeing you and all the others on Saturday. I had a fantastic time. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

That sounds so cool! Like I said, I sure wish I could have stayed longer! My wife was down the Jersey Shore with her sister, and I couldn't leave our dog unattended for more than 9 hours. When I eventually arrived home, my dog had that "FINALLY!" look on his face. Good thing I rushed to open the back door up for him. Otherwise he would have run right through it!

Funny thing about turning spheres; the first one always goes a bit slow. But once you get in the groove, you can really pop those babies out. And you know, I really tried to give that away! No one wanted it! I guess I should have taken my time and gotten a smoother surface. :D Anyway, it ended up in my carry-all, and now resides in my shop.

Better let it dry a bit more. I think it's only been about 9 to 10 months since I sawed up that cherry log.
