Clarification - Glue up after finish

I asked a question a few days ago about finishing my project before I glue it up, and everyone said that is the easiest. But some of you mentioned taping off the areas that are going to be glued, and some did not mention it. Can I stain the areas that will be glued, and put my final poly finishes on after, or do I have a tape off the joints? Does oil based stain affect the glue? I will be useing Titebond glue. :confused:

Tape off before you stain.

Don't stain where you want to glue. Tape works well for tenons, cotton bolls work well for mortises. The stain will interfere with the glues bond strength.
