I've been eyeing Keith Tompkins "Gage'T" bowl calipers for a while now. It's an ingenious design in it's simplicity. But with funds a bit tight now, thought I could whip up a temporary one until I can afford the real thing. With some scrap MDF, a 1/4" x 6" hex bolt, two brass acorn nuts, a 3" piece of brass tube, and a compression spring, I was able to make a reasonable copy in a couple of hours. I used a round rasp to cut a groove in the top end, then epoxy glued the brass tube into the groove. Works great :-)

I have to save this one for a future build. What a great way to save $$$$ and can't we all use a little savings?:)

Very nicely done, and I admire your attitude about buying one when you can afford it. Keith Tompkins creativity, and hard work should be rewarded. We all benefit by other artists sharing their ideas and creative accomplishments.
