A coworker of mine gave me some maple boards a while back. Nothing fancy or figured, just plain hard maple. Still nice wood none-the-less.
Anyway, I told him I'd build something for him and his wife as a thank you for thinking of me and giving me the wood.
I used one of the small boards he gave me as well as some scrap cherry (with a bit of curl), and made this box. The finish is just clear danish oil, sanded in to 600 grit.
Hope you like it.

Ryan

Nice box. I like the combination of woods and the shape - definitely an interesting form. Only comment I would make is that the lid is a little thick/heavy looking relative to the rest of the box for my taste.

Nice box, Ryan. Simple is good. The form is not new to me as I used angled sides as you did on the first set of boxes I built just a few months ago. I like it personally. Interesting way you did the latch... leaving it proud in lieu of a finger groove.

A nice job but as Larry.. I would go a tad thinner on the next lid. No big deal for sure as some might like the robust look.

Great job and keep up te good work...

Sarge..

Thanks for the comments guys.
I agree that the lid is a bit thick for the box, didn't really look that way in person tho, but I definitely see your point.
Will consider a thinner one next time.

The box was well received by my coworker.
