This came to me late last night and thought I'd toss it out to see if anyone had experimented with.

Has any one tried coating a wood plaque with Rain-X, engraving it then color filling.

I was thinking of something that would'nt get absorbed , but still repel water to make cleaning over fill off easier.

Maybe another waterproofing material?

Just some thoughts!

I think RainX has a very very light oil mixed in the alcohol so it might not be a good idea if you have to finish the piece later.

Most of the fill work I do now is on a pre-finished plaque.

Even with masking there is a bit of "cleanup"

I've been using Laserbits Pro Fills and they recommended using rubbing alcohol to clean up light residue, I find that damages the finish on plaques.
