Hey all...

I just placed my first order with Wall Lumber. I talked with Steve who was very friendly and helpful for this first timer.

I ordered:
qty 4 1/8" baltic birch plywood (52" x 60")
qty 4 1/2" baltic birch plywood (60" x 60")
qty 4 1/4" birch plywood (48" x 96")
qty 4 3/4" birch plywood (48" x 96")
100 bd ft 4/4 birch hardwood.

He cut me a deal on the 1/8" BB plywood because he had a bunch of sheets that were 52" x 60" instead of 60" x 60". I got them for $15 each instead of $25.

I also explained that the hardwood was being used for 6.75" tall drawer fronts and he said he'd mark the order to get the me widest stock he had. (normally it's random width 4"-8")

All in all a very pleasent experience so far..... :)

If the material is as good, i'll be one very happy camper.

Steve is a nice guy...I've met him at shows. He also usually always has some very nice ambrosia maple turning stock for folks who can't get it locally.

Brian,

I bet that you will be quite pleased with your order. I have been with mine.

Let us know how you like the plywood. I will be ordering several sets of cherry ply in the next week or so for an entertainment center.

Kent,

Have you (or anybody else reading this) by chance ordered any walnut from the folks at Wall? They've got a special on that looks darn attractive...

I know you will be pleased with your order. I have done business with
Steve in the past, and even with shipping and buying lumber in the blind,
they sent me some nice stock. I even used to live in the same area before
he went into business. Great folks to work with.

Now we will wait for the pics of the finished product.
Good luck and watch those fingers.

Augustus,

Funny you should ask. I have about 15 bf of the 100 bf of surfaced walnut that I received about four weeks ago. The rest is forming a headboard and nightstand for my daughter who is moving out for college next week (now there's a stealth gloat! :D :D :D ). I'll post photos of the completed components in about a week I hope.

I was quite pleased with the wood. It showed up four days after I ordered it in a well packaged rectangular bundle. It was every bit of 100 bf and maybe a few more. I'd guess there were about 36 or so boards in the stack. Of those, three or four weren't particularly good and I would not have picked them if I had done it myself. The board quality was fine but the color was quite light since each had a lot of sapwood. However, I simply used them for some internal framing so they don't show anyway. On the other hand, the rest of the boards were very good to excellent. One has such a wild grain pattern that I plan to resaw it for use as veneer. Considering the price, it was a real steal. I'm trying to figure out what I can build out of walnut next so that I can get another 100 bf at those low prices. With shipping to my door in Northcentral Florida ($58 IIRC), the cost per bf was just over $4,00. Considering my local (50 mile drive one way :( ) supplier didn't have that much on hand and was more expensive to boot, this was a steal! :)

I am in no way affiliated with Wall Lumber; I'm just a satisfied customer.
