While using my bandsaw last night, I had the misfortune to experience the tire flying off the wheel. Picked up some new Carter urethane tires today and installed them this evening (to much fun, to many exciting words!) After waiting an hour to let them cool off, I reassembled the bs, adjusted the tracking and guides, fired the bs up, and had the great pleasure of finding the new tires had crawled off the wheels to the inside of the wheel. Do I have an unknown problem with my setup or do I need to find a way to glue the tires to the wheels? Thanks for your help.

When I changed the tires on my old Shopsmith band saw, they included a tube of cement to glue the tires onto the wheels. Some kind of 3M gasket cement, IIRC.
I had no problems keeping the tires on the wheels. I'll try to remember to go look in the shop later - I'm pretty sure the tube is still there.

I haven't changed the tires on my 14" Jet yet, and there's no mention of the procedure in the manual, so I can't elaborate any further..

Hal,
Depending on your bandsaw model and age, the tires may need to be glued on. I have an older unit where the wheels do not have a lip on the edge and no crown. The tires on this unit need to glued on and crowned. My newer BS has the lips and a crown built in to the wheels - no glue or crowning necessary.

Good luck,

Wes

This may sound weird, but I was in the middle of a job when my old tires cracked and fell off. I wrapped several layers of good old duct tape around the wheel. I think it was a year later I finally put new tires on. My wheels are flat. The duct tape worked wonderful, but just looked a little unprofessional. When I finally got new tires I had to glue them on to make them stay put.
