This is a chunk of box elder I picked up from the side of the road. It has set on the shelf drying for about a year. I didn't remember all this color and curl when I roughed it. Measures 9 1/2 by 5. Buffed sealcoat finish.

I decided to burn the rim on this one.

Beautiful work - as always Mike! So much color and curl in this that it looks like it is moving! Love the form and the subtle burned detail area! Very nice work!

"A log on the side of the road could be a bowl if you have your chain saw with you. ;)"

I guess that quote fits perfectly. Great piece.

Very nice. I like to see more that just wood and finish. Tasteful details really add to the total piece.

Mike, As alwys your work is right on the money, your eye for shape and embelishments are right on the money! I need to get a burning system to be able to do some better burn ins. You are an inspiration to us!

Thanks for sharing,

Jeff

Beautiful!
I really like the finish! Not sure what a sealcoat finish is??
The rim treatment is pretty cool too.

Very nice.

For some reason, the color pattern in the first and third photo reminds me of the background in a Japanese print. You know - those big drawings with the Samurai warrior in some repose with the countryside in the background. I can see a mountain and lake off in the distance...
