Felder sent me this video link yesterday, which I thought was interesting, and may be to some of you as well. I also shows their trimmers in action, which may be interesting to compare to the two mentioned on a couple other currently active threads.

Yes Steve that hand held machine is pretty neat.

Felder Ontario had an open house last weekend so I went over to see what was new.

The salesman was demonstrating one of the large industrial edgebanders for a customer. Very impressive, and a far cry from an iron and a hand trimmer.

Regards, Rod.

Rod, for some really wierd reason, I've always wanted an edgebander. Wouldn't use it very much though, so this little gadget got my attention. It is pricey, but it appears to work ok in the video. A lot better then my wifes iron anyway...

Looks like it handles the thicker banding well enough as well.

I would check around on pricing on that tool Virutex has it on sale for $2,790. I don't think it is a Felder made product but something they put their labels on.

Tom, I don't think that Felder makes this machine either. I saw a nearly identical one sell on ebay, but it was branded to somebody else. Can't remember who...

I keep seeing conventional edgebanders listed for pennies on the dollar, and I think that deals are out there to be had on one of those as well.

I hadn't caught the fact that this can apply 2 and 3 mm banding. I never use veneer edgebanding, because you can't ease the corners, and the corners ding too easily. But 2 mm banding is very different. That's essentially what I do now, but it involves yellow-gluing and clamping for days. If this machine really works, it might be a worthwhile addition to a small shop.

I think you should buy one, use it, and review it for the audience here at SMC.

LOL! So does Felder USA! Actually Jamie, you would use one far more than me....:D

Steve, if your use for an edge bander is "occasional", see if you can find the Freud or similar used. (Even "new" is a good buy in that respect) I bought one off another 'Creeker and have been pleasantly surprised at how handy it's been to have around. And it can be hung on the wall when not in use if you work things out for the wall space.

Note that this device and similar doesn't help with the thicker stuff you were discussing while I was originally typing this...

I’ve been surfing about this edgebander. As best I can tell, it is manufactured by a Czech company called Adamik ( http://www.adamikcompany.com/edgebanding-machines/ ). It is sold in the US by Felder (as the Forka 200 http://www.felderusa.com/us-us/products/edgebanders/forka-200.html&zoom=true ), by Virutex (http://virutex.com/portablegluepotedgebanderforsmallshops-1-1.aspx ), and Adwood (as the Adamik http://adwood.com/tapes-tools/manual_plus.html ).

Cool info Jamie, thanks for the links. That ought to make it common enough that parts would not be too bad to source. I bet that one I saw go on ebay was an Adamik, I remember the red color. Is there any difference between the brands that you can see?

Jim, I just finished a project with the wifes clothes iron, and I swear, NEVER again, so before I get to the next edgebanded project, something has got to change. That has got to be the most inefficient thing that I have ever done in my shop. 20 foot of it would be one thing, but 400 is no fun. Not really sure which way I will go yet, but I really do like the idea of being able to do the 2 or 3mm banding.

Maybe when Jamie buys one, I'll see how his review turns out:D

Laguna now sells this machine too. They call it the Hand Bandit. Their price is $1995.

Not sure if the hot melt for these works with oil finishes. The older hot melt veneer edging would dissolve after an oil finish is applied.

Looks like the Laguna comes trimmers and a stand for that price, while Felder charges extra for them.

Something about having to precut all the edge banding to rough length kind of turns me off for some reason. I also wonder how the trimmers do with wood edging (if the cutters try to dig in to follow the grain.

Kind of funny, about 10 seconds after I posted the last post, Felder called me with a deal on new P-100, and used P-200 edgebanders. Like nearly the same cost as the Forka for a stationary machine. P's are hot air banders rather than glue pot machines. I'd think that the gluepot machines are more desirable?

What can you guys tell me about preglued banding availability?

The 100 will do up to 1.2 mm thick banding, the 200 will do up to 2 mm thick. The 200 will also bevel the edge, while the 100 just flush cuts. Both have end trimming. I don't know anything about these machines really, just second hand info, but $3,500 sounds like a pretty good deal on a new machine. If any of you are interested, call Fergus.

I'm tempted, even though I told my wife some silly thing about no new tools for a while...

Here is a link to the P-200

Thanks Tom. Kind of an odd site, but they would certainly have everything I would ever use.
